If you’re preparing for a home improvement project, have no fear! We’re here to give you the rundown on what most roofing or siding installation and replacement processes look like. Keep reading to learn what to expect during your roofing project.
The first step to any quality home improvement project is a thorough inspection of the structure. This will allow for the most accurate estimate of materials and scope of work. If your contractor does not complete a thorough inspection, you could run into unforeseen, and very costly repairs that would have likely been discovered in an inspection. For instance, having a peek in the attic or crawlspace can show water damage to the plywood sheathing that would not be evident from the outside.
Once you have selected your contractor for the project and submitted any necessary deposits and documents, your project can start! Though depending on the weather and how busy your contractor is, you will likely spend some time in their queue before the roof installation process begins.
Prep
Before we begin your project, be sure to remove any hanging objects from under the eaves and remove anything that could get damaged easily. If possible, please park your cars on the street or leave ample space for the dump trailer we will bring with us.
Meet the crew!
The first day of any project will include an introduction to your crew lead with your Project Manager, property protection practices, delivery of a dumpster or dump trailer, and installation of safety measures on the roof. Now they can begin to tear-off your old roof!
What’s next
Depending on the size of your home, you can likely expect to see a delivery of materials on day two or three in order to allow the crew time and space to remove old materials and install new plywood and water barrier without too many obstacles on the roof. Waiting until the water barrier is installed also allows the materials to be loaded directly onto the roof and saves the crew the time and physical toll of carrying heavy bundles of shingles up a ladder.
Wrapping Up
Once the roof installation process is complete, a final inspection with your Project Manager should take place. This will allow you both to walk through the project and ensure all elements included in your estimate have been carried out in a quality manner. Final Payment will be due at the completion of your roofing project. Now that you are satisfied with your beautiful new roof, it’s time to hop onto your favorite media outlet and shout your contractor from the rooftops!
